Gerhild Perl is a PhD student in Social Anthropology at the University of Bern. She is part of the SNSF-funded research project Intimate Uncertainties. Precarious life and moral economy across European borders. Her PhD research focuses on contested moralities and ethical practices in the context of precarious lives and violent deaths in the Spanish-Moroccan borderland. She studied Social and Cultural Anthropology in Vienna and Lisbon and wrote her final thesis about diverging conceptions of social death.
