I am an AHRC-funded PhD candidate in Classics at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, researching Roman pharmacology, minerals in ancient medicine (Wellcome Trust-funded project), and historic anatomical preparations. My background is similarly interdisciplinary: I trained and worked as an apprentice laboratory technician for Chemistry in Germany before studying first History and Classics, and then Medical Visualisation and Human Anatomy, in Glasgow. My research interests include the practice of making remedies, chemical compounds, and natural history preparations; the reception of ancient medicine; anatomical illustrations and preparations; and the material culture of science and medicine.
